10 on the 10th…How I Show Love

10on10thBolinBunch

Today I am linking up with my friend Jen from The Bolin Bunch for her 10 on the 10th link-up. Today we are talking all about ways we show others that we love them.

1 Peter 4:8

Love is so big and so important. As a Christian I strive every day to show people how much I love them, just as God loves them. Love is the greatest command, to love God and to love others. Here is how I try to show love…

…ONE…

Cook for them! I love cooking, I love sharing food. I bring people food, I bring treats to my co-workers, I make my family their favorite meals, I bring desserts to my small group, I bake cookies for church. I love cooking for people!

…TWO…

Try to speak their love language. Brandon’s love language is touch and quality time. Just reaching over and squeezing his hand during a basketball game or putting my hand on his leg are simple ways that I can show him love. Guy is a words of affirmation kid. He loves to get an “atta boy”. Maddi loves quality time. Knowing and recognizing their love languages helps me pour into them effectively.

…THREE…

Dinner time. My family loves quality time around the dinner table, no phones, no TV, just the four of us talking about their days. This is a time of day when we are all together and connect. Making sure everyone is heard is a great way to show them I see them and hear them.

…FOUR…

Pouring into others. You can see different random acts of kindness my family has done here. Serving together grows us closer together.

…FIVE…

Flirt. I LOVE flirting with Brandon. Winking at him from across the room, saying flirty things. Flirting shows him that I am thinking of him at random times throughout the day!

…SIX…

Text messages. I love sending Brandon text messages telling him that I love him, that I am thinking about him, and that I am thankful for (unloading the dishwasher, packing the kids lunches, etc..) whatever it is, I am thankful he did it and I want him to know I noticed and appreciated it.

…SEVEN…

Praying together. We love praying together as a family and praising God for the different things he blesses us with as a family…like Guy’s sense of humor, Maddi’s wit, Brandon’s leadership.

…EIGHT…

“Your my favorite”. This is a line that we say all the time in our house…”Maddi, your my favorite girl.” Everyone is a favorite around here and we all just beam.

…NINE…

Serve each other. Brandon and I try to out serve each other every day, not in a prideful way to get a prize, but in the way we want to make each other happy. He brings me coffee, I rub his neck, he makes my tea, I make his dinner, he comes home from work in the summer and I have a glass of iced tea waiting for him. Serving each other joyfully is a way we show each other we love each other.

…TEN…

Listen. Listen actively. Listen with your undivided attention. Listen without speaking or interjecting. Listening, really listening is one of the best ways to show someone that you love them and that they are valuable.

How do you show love? How do you receive love? Thank you so much for reading along today!

  1. A fabulous list of 10! My hubs and I did the Love Languages when we were engaged and it was so helpful for us to know how to love each other better. I have it on my to-do list to do the kids one although I’m fairly certain quality time and gifts are there’s at this point! 😀 Hope you have a beautiful week!

    1. I bet that was so helpful to do the love languages when you were engaged. I was listening to the man behind the love languages the other day and he said most of the time our love languages stay the same from childhood into adulthood. I found that really interesting.

    1. I think so too Dara! Sometimes it’s a good reminder of how they accept love. Brandon doesn’t feel love by me doing things for him, but if I sit next to him on the couch or even just spend time with him, he feels the most loved.

  2. Come bake with me friend! I love cooking and baking so much. Maybe we could get Dolly to host cooking class!!

  3. Definitely a big ol’ yes on the flirting! That’s a huge one!! I like to send flirty little texts now and then too.
