Italian Sloppy Joes

My family loves sloppy joes. My family loves spaghetti. I thought I would combine two of their favorites into one and Italian Sloppy Joes came to life. We all gobbled these up, and the best part, this recipe makes enough that I was able to put half the recipe into a freezer bag and freeze for another meal some other busy week night. Easy Peasy.

You will need….

1 pound ground beef
1 pound ground Italian sausage
1 cup diced onion
2 or 3 cloves of garlic
1 (15 oz) can of tomato sauce
1 (6 oz) can of tomato paste
1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup of mozzarella cheese (grated)
1/2 cup of parmesan cheese
1 package of hoagies

Turn on your broiler on low.

Begin by mincing the garlic and chopping the onion.

While the mixture is heating up, shred the mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Slice the hoagies and spread the cheese on top.

I placed the hoagies and cheese on a foil lined cookie sheet and placed them in the oven with the broiler on low. Keeping my eye on the cheese, I made sure it was melted and a little toasted. Then, add the sloppy joe mixture….

What I love about this recipe is the fact that I was able to place 1/2 the sloppy joe mixture into a freezer bag and freeze for a meal on another night. This is so yummy, so good, and a favorite in our house!
