Sunriver Oregon Recap

Good morning and brace yourself for 5,349 picture today. I am finishing up our Sunriver trip. If you missed yesterday’s post on days 1 and 2 you can read that recap here.

We started off on Friday with a trip to the High Desert Museum right outside of Bend. This was such a fun and unexpected stop. This is the best museum I have ever been too and the kids LOVED it.

This museum is a MUST if you are ever in Bend. It was so interactive. Maddi and Guy started by making animal tracks in the mud and snow.

Made different shadows.

Saw a bobcat and a porcupine, as well as a mustang.

We learned all about the Oregon Trail, the PNW and the role our area played in WWII, Native Americans, coal miners, and so much more. All of the exhibits were interactive for kids too!

DSC_0003We saw how an old original saw/lumber mill worked. Guy was into it. Here he is shaving the log.

Guy also did chores at a homestead. Maddi stood back and watched her brother do all the work.

Our next stop was the Lava Tubes. This is a cave that is 1 mile (2 miles round trip) and cold (40 degrees) but really cool. We had to bring our own lanterns or you could rent flashlights. It was a lot of fun to explore.

After all the exploring we made it to Sunriver and it was still too early to check into our VRBO so we explored The Villiage, got coffee (the kids got smoothies) and we enjoyed the sunshine and people watching.

Each morning I enjoyed my coffee and the kids enjoyed the hot tub.

We were able to feed deer right out of our hands.

We spent two full days at the SHARC…their aquatic center with water slides.

We also played mini-golf.

The kids sleeping most of the LONG drive home was a sign of a successful vacation!

Thanks for hanging with me through all the pictures. Through all of our fun travels, there really is no place like home though!

  1. Total success. Wow it looks like y’all had a blast. So the deer you fed were from where you stayed? SO cool. I can’t wait to live out in the woods with all of our critters :).

    1. Yes, they hung around our rented house and would pretty much lay on the porch. They were not afraid of people at all. You will love having all the critters and birds around 🙂 I miss living out of town!

  2. Looks like the best time and I can’t believe how tame those deer were that you could feed them out of your hand. What? I like your new header btw 😉 xoxo ERIN

  3. Wow! I love that you can feed the deer like that! Are your kids good walkers? We’re working on pushing our kids some in their walking- they can do about 2-3 miles but they’ve got to get in Disney shape for June!

    1. They did really good with all the walking but we also have them some breaks between places and they were grateful for that. They did really well though 🙂 Your kiddos will lOVE Disney and do a great job walking!
