What I'm Reading

What I’m Reading {March Edition}

I read three great books this month, and one of them is going to be really hard to beat for my favorite book.

The first book I read this month was Big Little Lies

Big Little Lies by [Moriarty, Liane]

I think I might be one of the last people on earth to read this book. I really enjoyed it and read it pretty quickly. I really liked the setting and could relate to some of these moms of kindergartners. Always trying to please and to do the right thing for your child and give off the impression that we have it all together all the time. It also really made me think of the fact that we are all fighting battles and how we try to hide the negative. It also struck me that all three women came from different paths, but ended up together. I was shocked by the ending. This book was a page turner. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars.

My Not So Perfect Life: A Novel by [Kinsella, Sophie]

The next book I read was My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella. This is the first Sophie Kinsella book I have read and I loved it. I could relate so well with Katie Brenner, the main character. When I was in my 20’s I was always comparing my life to others. What they had, what they were doing, how they were living, always wanting more. Instagram and social media is funny that way isn’t it? I loved this book because it gave the perspectives of different characters and their struggles as well as what they perceived was happening in other’s life. I also loved getting to know Demeter better throughout the book, think “Devil Wears Prada” boss. This is a great book and I would give it 4.5 stars out of 5.

On Second Thought: The Addictive Bestseller That Has Everyone Captivated! by [Higgins, Kristan]

On Second Thought by Kristan Higgans might be my favorite book to date. I could not put this book down from the beginning to the end. I wish so badly that I was in a Book Club so I could discuss this book and the feelings and thoughts I was having with others. This book is about two sisters who have never been close but both drawn together by unfortunate circumstances. This book made me question myself and what I would do in different situations, especially Kate’s situation. But I really liked and commended Ainsley, the younger sister, how she was a pleaser (like me) but could also stand up for herself (unlike me-I run from confrontation). I loved this book and would give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Other books I am reading this month…

Charlotte’s Web is my favorite all-time read aloud. When I think back to childhood and my favorite books, this is always my favorite (followed closely by “Ramona the Pest”). I remember my 2nd grade teacher reading me this book. I have been reading this as my read aloud in class and the kids are loving it. I hope I can find the cartoon version of the movie to show them when I am done.

Our bookshelf is also filled with spring books. Right before I left for Spring Break I loaded it with Easter books.

Maddi has been reading books from some series I picked up at Costco. For Christmas Brandon and I got her a Roald Dahl collection and she is reading her way through the series. Also, she has been reading the “Owl Diaries” series as well. Maddi has always been a reader, but she really preferred picture books until this fall. Now she is really into chapter books. I am hoping we can all read the “Harry Potter” series this summer. img_5493

Guy has taken off with reading. I think he is going to make me lose my hair. He loves to be read to but has been a pretty reluctant reader. I bought him this book set from Costco last summer and he has now started really enjoying reading.

I really like the first set of books, the second set introduces blends and he is not quite ready for this. I am going to get him some Bob books as well. I LOVE Bob books for kids who are just learning to sound out and put words together. However, I know that Guy prefers these illustrations over the Bob books.

That is what we have been reading around her lately. I am so excited for new book recommendations for this month! Thanks for reading!

    1. Stephanie, I really liked it this book. I hope they make it into a movie some day. I have never read any of her books but want to read another one. It was such a great book!

  1. Nope you’re not the last one to read that book! I haven’t heard it but I have started watching the show and I have to say I’m having a hard time getting into it. I don’t know I just do not like it all that much! Maybe I would like the book better.

    Happy Wednesday!

    1. Brittany, I am afraid I wouldn’t be into it as much as the book. I also heard that they are going to make a season 2 and I don’t know how I feel about that. I did like the book though!

  2. I saw “On second thought” at the store the other day and almost bought it! it sounded like a good read….im going to buy it now! thanks for the review!! 🙂

  3. I liked the book Big Little Lies, and thought the HBO show was pretty good. I don’t really know how they would make a second season though?! Thanks for the book recommendations!

  4. Guess what? I never read big little lies, but absolutely Loved the show. However, since there are so many other books I want to read I’m just gonna forget about it now, LOL! On second thought has me intrigued as well!

  5. I haven’t read Big Little Lies but I am really curious, especially with the show out now! I’m glad to hear you liked My Not So Perfect Life, because it’s one that sounds really good to me!
