What I'm Reading

What I’m Reading {February Edition}

Happy 1st day of March! I read three books this month and LOVED each one!

The first book I read was “Turning the Tables” by Teresa Giudice.

I am a big fan of Real Housewives and watch all of the series. I love the OC and Jersey series the best and I was really excited to read this book. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars. To be honest, I knew I was not going to be reading some big earth shattering memoir that would change my mind about Teresa and her wrong-doings. I was right. To me, she still took the tone of a victim but I liked the book regardless. It was a pretty juicy read and I enjoyed reading her stories about prison and the people who were there. As a mom, I could relate to her missing her kids and how hard that struggle was for her. If you like the Real Housewife series I would recommend you read this book.

The second book I read was Colleen Hoover’s “It Ends with Us“.

What a great book. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars. I was engaged the entire time and this book really made me feel a range of emotions. I loved reading about Lily and her life and found myself not sure who to cheer for. I was so torn. I found myself gasping and angry, happy, sad, shaking my head in agreement, laughing, crying, it was everything. What a great book. If you enjoy romance novels with a twists and turns, this is a book for you. Be prepared to not be able to put it down.

The third book I read this month was “The Hating Game” by Sally Thorne.

This book earned 5 out of 5 stars as well. I could not put this book down and found myself thinking about it at work and could not wait to get home to curl up in a blanket and read it. This novel is full of hate and love. It was an easy ready and had no “down time” (you know, fluff and boring stuff-a real literary term I am sure). I loved reading the 50 Shades series and this book was just as good. I loved the humor in the book, how Lucy and Josh interacted, and it made me wonder and guess how this would all end. It was a great book and probably my favorite I have read this year. I would suggest this book as a light read.

Here is what we are reading in kindergarten…

It is Read Across America week! We are reading all the Dr. Seuss books and focusing on “The Lorax”.

I am also reading “Because of Winn-Dixie” as a read-aloud. Can you believe I have never read this book? How?!?! We just started it, and I am so afraid that I am going to cry in front of my students. If something bad happens to Winn-Dixie or Opal there is not telling if I would be able to keep myself together.

Maddi and Guy have been reading these ocean predator books this month and loving them. The books score the fish and compare them against similar fish and the kids have loved guessing which ocean predator would win in a battle…I have learned A TON of information.

Also, they have been reading “James and the Giant Peach” at night. This has been so fun to read with them because it reminds me of my childhood.
I am really excited to see what everyone else is reading this month. Any suggestions on a good chapter book read aloud for my kindergarten students? I am going to read “Charlotte’s Web” next because it goes well with our themes for spring, but then need at least two more read alouds. I would love some suggestions.

Thank you for stopping by,

-Jenna

  1. Okay, so now I truly need to read It Ends with Us! Heather from My Glittery Heart read it as well and she texted me that I need to read it…so now I am certain I have to read it!!
So if you cry when reading Because of Winn-Dixie to your classroom it’s totally ok! Emma’s teacher cried this year reading the kids a book and Emma thought it was just so awesome that her teacher was showing emotion =) She talked about it in a good way for weeks!
    Have a great day!!

    1. Ok, that is good to hear about Emma’s reaction to her teacher crying. I am loving the book so far and usually books with animals in them do not end happily. You do need to read “It Ends with Us”, it is such a great book!

  2. I LOVED It Ends With Us soooo much! Wasn’t it interesting to learn she loosely based it on something that occurred in her own life? Thanks for the recommendation of The Hating Game..did not have that one on my list. And thanks soooo much for linking up and sharing.

  3. You have never read Because of Winn Dixie?!?!!? Oh man, that’s a sweet little book!!! Check out the movie too. You are the second person to sing praises of It Ends With Us! I have it on my shelf NOW but cannot start it until April. Can I admit I never liked Dr. Dr. Seuss? Admitting it now – never a fan.

    1. Not liking Dr Seuss’s?!?! Say wha?!?! Just kidding! I love him but I have so many other favorite children’s authors as well! I know, I cannot believe I have never read Winn-Dixie and each day I just pray nothing bad happens! Hahaha! Read It Ends with Us. In fact take it to Mexico, it would be a great beach read!

    1. Laura, I loved “It Ends with Us” as well. I am going to have to read more of Colleen Hoover’s books, but I have heard they do not hold a candle to this one. Have you read any of her other stuff? Maddi is a book worm like me, but Guy has not time for reading! Hahaha! So I completely understand where you are coming from 🙂
